Plot holes in the SW saga
Time
if memory serves, the EU did a fairly good job of covering this with the Truce at Bakura novel. Jedi can anchor themselves to another jedi if one is near by when they die. maybe obi-wan anchored himself to luke because luke's training wasn't complete. yoda knew that it was the will of the force and accepted his death, and luke was a full jedi when anakin died. i can't think of anything for qui-gon, except that maybe he felt that obi-wan was ready to be on his own and didn't need him. but i don't think he is gone- i read somewhere that in AOTC when anakin is butchering the tusken raiders, you can hear qui-gons voice telling anakin no. so it would appear that he is still around, at least watching over things.

who knows. maybe GL will straighten this all out.

It is an "ancient religion" because it's been around for 15000 years, not because it hasn't been practiced since the ancient times. And it wasn't Tarkin who said that. It was some guy setting at the Evil Round Table.

no, tarkin said it when vader said that he felt obi-wan was aboard the death star. admiral motti called it his sad devotion to that ancient religion.

as the EU explains it, the Emperor and his cronies could sense powerful jedi, and thus would hunt them down. Yoda hid on dagobah near a large concetration of darkside energy- the cave. I think Obi-wan managed to stay alive simply because Tattooine was a little off the beaten path- actually more like backwater.

then again, if obi-wan was found and killed, would have made for a very short film, wouldn't it?

as for obi-wan gathering up other force-sensitive people and training them? i don't think he would have had the recources to pull that off. at that point in the time line, the empire was pretty vast and powerful. i'm sure that if he just started flying around asking for jedi, it would eventually get back to vader. not only that, but the emperor and vader would probably notice a large concetration of force-users in one spot and send a star destroyer or twenty to wipe them out.
